This low mileage genuine factory Series One 4.2 Manual with Overdrive XJ6 was manufactured on the 8th February 1972, finished in Jaguar Light Blue with Dark Blue leather upholstery and supplied new by the Inverness Motor Company. The 4.2 Manual Overdrive model is without doubt the most desirable of the early XJ6 range and is finished in one of the most favoured colour combinations as per its factory specification. HHR 258K has a recorded mileage of just 72,000 supported by a comprehensive file of documentation.
Having spent its very early life in the Scottish Highlands, the Jaguar was sold in August 1976 (original 1976 sales invoice included in the history file) to a Mr Minihans in the Clackmannanshire region of Scotland who owned the car for almost 30 years. The Jaguar was sold on behalf of a Stirling based gentleman and was at the time registered with the private registration mark JAG 228. The XJ6 was in gentle use throughout the late 1970's and 80's but in 1989, the Jaguar was laid up for ten years with a mileage of 54894 miles. The XJ6 was back on the road in 1999 and its long-term owner covered a further 1000 miles before selling the car in 2003 after 29 years of ownership.
The Jaguar moved from Scotland all the way down to Wiltshire where its new owner spent significant amounts of money on mechanical improvements. It was treated to electronic ignition, a long life custom-built stainless-steel exhaust system, rebuilt carburettors, new brake pads, overhauled overdrive unit and the gearbox was stripped down and new bearings and seals fitted. From 2005 to 2014 the Jaguar covered in the region of 10,000 miles clearly proving a reliable, usable car. The Jaguar changed hands during 2014 and whilst with its new Lincolnshire based owner the car covered a further 6000 miles and was treated to some body restoration work (photographs on file), new front and rear bumpers including over-riders, renewed fuel tanks and various electrical repairs.
With a good history, low mileage, fantastic colour combination, largely original trim, bolt on chrome wires and a fabulous strong, fit engine and gearbox with working overdrive, this XJ6 is excellent value and an ideal car for regular use. HHR 258K holds the road superbly, has impressive power and performance and will be supplied with a full 12 months MOT and freshly serviced. The car has lovely paintwork of a high standard, bumpers are excellent having been recently replaced, the engine bay is very original, the original Dark Blue leather is fabulous, and the underside totally rock solid in structurally excellent order.
