A British sports car restored in Germany. This 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 MKIII was returned down to the smallest detail to its original factory specifications and finished in the classic color British Racing Green.

The Austin-Healey 3000 was introduced in 1959 and went on to become the best-known model within the family now commonly referred to simply as the “Big Healeys.” Beneath the long hood lies a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine, paired with a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. A simple formula, but an exceptionally effective one.

The bodies were built by Jensen Motors and subsequently assembled at the MG factory in Abingdon. The result was a sports car that looked unmistakably British, yet was robust enough to establish a serious reputation in international rallying as well.

The Mark III appeared in 1964 and was known internally as the BJ8. It represented the most powerful evolution of the Austin-Healey 3000. Thanks in part to a revised camshaft and larger SU carburetors, power output increased. In our view, the BJ8 remains legendary. Not because it was the most refined sports car of its era. The steering demands concentration, and the engine makes it abundantly clear that it is working for you. But that is precisely the point. You sit low, look out over the long hood, and hear the six-cylinder grow richer and more resonant as the tachometer climbs.

The Mark III was also more comfortable than its predecessors. The dashboard placed the most important instruments directly in front of the driver, power-assisted brakes became standard, and the BJ8 evolved into a fully developed sporting convertible in which longer journeys could also be enjoyed in comfort.

This example dates from 1967 and was restored in Germany to a very high standard. The car presents in exceptionally well-cared-for condition inside, outside, and down to the smallest details. The body is straight and beautifully finished in classic British Racing Green, the interior complements it perfectly, and throughout the car it is clear that the restoration was carried out with care, understanding, and genuine enthusiasm.

A 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 MKIII, restored to its original factory specifications and finished in what may well be the most traditional color for a British sports car. A truly beautiful example.
