Description

The Austin-Healey 3000 stands as a quintessential example of the classic British sports car, one of the rare few to earn its legendary status while still in production. This is no small feat, though perhaps not surprising given the brand's rich heritage and success in motorsport. With each new iteration, the model grew more refined. The second generation, known as the 3000 MkII (BN7 & BT7), debuted in March 1961 featuring a high-performance camshaft and, initially, triple HS4 SU carburettors. However, these proved difficult to tune and were soon replaced by twin HS6s with the introduction of the BJ7 in January 1962. Referred to as the MkIIA, the BJ7 marked a significant evolution, becoming the first Austin-Healey to feature wind-up windows, a wrap-around windscreen, and an integrated hood. In total, 6,113 units of the BJ7 were produced.

According to its BMIHT factory records, this beautiful 3000 on offer was built LHD on the 20th-22nd February 1963 and was exported to Dusseldorf, Germany later that year. Finished in Ivory White with a black interior and black hood. Records show that the car was despatched to the dealership on the 18th October 1963. It was optioned from new with wire wheels, heater, laminated screen, overdrive, road speed tyres, mph speedometer, octagonal wheel nuts, steering column lock, black tonneau cover, European headlights & exhaust. The original UK logbook indicates that the car was repatriated back to the UK and allocated its current registration number on 15th November 1965.

Within the history file is an original Michelin brochure for XAS tyres, dating from January 1967, confirming from the photo of car and registration depicted that this was the actual Austin Healey 3000 employed by the Stoke-on-Trent manufacturers to promote their tyres in a press advertising campaign which ran between March and July 1967. The car featured in their tyre ads in virtually all the major publications of the day.

The registration document confirms only 5 owners since 1965.

JME was commissioned to fully restore the car for the present owner which commenced in August 2018 and completed in September 2019.  As of writing, mileage is 436miles. The car is fully matching numbers and remains on its original chassis, body and engine plates.

The restoration documentation with the car confirms the level of expenditure, combined with the detailed photographic build record.

Our vendor requested the sensible reliability upgrades during the restoration including, large core radiator, electric fan kit, high torque starter motor & electronic fuel pump.

This is undoubtably the finest Ivory White Healey currently available on the market. Ideal for touring or shows. Due to a change in circumstances this desirable Austin Healey 3000 MKIIA is being sold on behalf of our customer and is offered for sale with original logbook, UK V5C Registration Document, BMIHT certificate, documents file, Photographic record, 2 sets of keys, a spare wheel spanner, hammer and jack.

This car must be seen in person to fully understand the build quality and driven to appreciate the road handling, refinement and performance.
