History of the Model and This Example Discover this magnificent 1953 Aston Martin DB2/4 Mk1, a rare left-hand-drive gem delivered new in France. This iconic model, registered on 15 December 1953, is a cornerstone of motoring history. The genesis of the DB2/4 stemmed from the fierce competition among prestigious sports car manufacturers in the 1950s. Aston Martin owner David Brown sought to improve the DB2's performance while offering a more practical option, leading to the creation of the DB2/4, often described as a "family saloon". The car was powered by a 2.6 L Lagonda VB6E engine, then by a 2.9 L VB6J, producing 125 ch and 140 ch respectively. The DB2/4 also stood out for its design, with an innovative tailgate providing easier access to the luggage compartment, a feature that later became commonplace. A number of DB2/4 models were bodied by firms such as Bertone and Allemano, offering distinctive designs compared with the Touring version. Despite its relatively brief production run, the DB2/4 left a lasting mark on Aston Martin history, combining elegance and innovation in an iconic model from the golden age of luxury motoring.
