Description

This 1946 Scott Flying Squirrel motorcycle is a fascinating and probably unique piece of motorcycle history, because it presents itself still in its original paint, so to speak original to the "last screw". The motorcycle is fully functional, ready to ride and has a valid Swiss road registration with the coveted Vetereanen status. The mileage is about 16'800 km and has been in the same family ownership for more than 70 years.

To give the Flying Squirrel a sportier touch the pillion seat and footpegs were removed. Also the motorcycle seat was lowered a bit- Of course all these components are present and will be included in a sale. The 596cc two-stroke engine, in conjunction with the three-speed transmission, produces 25 kW (about 34 hp) and has enough power to push the bike well over 100 km/h (62 mph).

Manufactured by the British Scott Motorcycles Ltd. and first introduced in 1926, the Scott Flying Squirrel was known for its innovative design coupled with technical prowess, but also for its high price. For example, the motorcycle featured a unique convection-based water-cooled circuit known as the "thermosyphon system," as well as a centrally located flywheel. Production of civilian versions of the Scott Flying Squirrel ceased in 1940 and resumed for a short time in 1946. On these early post-war models, the Webb carrier forks were replaced by Dowty air-sprung telescopic forks.
