Formerly part of the private collection of a German Ducati dealership owner. During that ownership, the bike was preserved in perfect, ready-to-ride condition but never used.
The Ducati 900 Super Sport of 1976–1977 stands as one of the most iconic motorcycles ever built – a purist’s machine that captured the essence of 1970s European racing in its rawest form. Inspired by the legendary 750SS that dominated Imola in 1972, the 900SS took everything further: a larger, torquier engine, desmodromic valve actuation, and Ducati’s signature bevel-drive engineering. It quickly became the benchmark for riders seeking uncompromising performance blended with hand-built Italian soul.
Where Japanese manufacturers delivered power and reliability, Ducati offered passion. The 900SS was lighter, more tactile, and more involving – a true thoroughbred built for the enthusiast. With its silver-and-blue racing livery, sculpted tank, and numbered Conti silencers, it is also a visual masterpiece. The 864 cc L-twin, breathing through 40 mm Dell’Orto carburettors, produced over 70 hp – enough to rival and often surpass contemporaries like the BMW R90S, Moto Guzzi Le Mans and Kawasaki Z1.
The example offered
This particular 1976–1977 Ducati 900 SS has undergone a complete inspection and mechanical overhaul. No expense was spared to return the bike to pristine running condition. The following works were carried out:
• New mounting bracket
• New battery and fuse holder
• Brand-new tyres and inner tubes, professionally balanced
• New brake discs front and rear
• New front and rear master cylinders
• Complete oil and filter service
• Valve clearances checked, spark plugs replaced
• New exhaust gaskets
• Engine carefully inspected and refreshed
Despite being fully road-ready, the bike has not been ridden since the overhaul due to the previous owner’s Achilles tendon injury. It remains in collector-grade condition with all the hallmarks of originality: numbered Conti silencers, correct 40 mm Dell’Orto PHM carburettors, and the rare right-side gearshift – a feature unique to the early models.
A rare opportunity
With fewer than 3,500 units built in this configuration and ever-increasing international collector interest, early 900SS models are among the most desirable Ducatis of all time. Their mechanical honesty, racing DNA and elegant aggression make them prized centrepieces in serious collections.
This example is not only visually correct and unrestored in appearance, but also mechanically exceptional thanks to expert-level work. It is also registered on bevelheaven.com – the definitive online reference for bevel-drive Ducatis.
A truly rare chance to own one of the last great analogue superbikes – built in an era when Ducati still meant hand-crafted, uncompromising excellence.
Ready to be admired. Or ridden. Or both.
