1990 | Porsche 928 S4

Originally intended to replace the company's iconic 911, the 928 attempted to combine the power, poise and handling of a sports car with the refinement, comfort and equipment of a luxury saloon. The body, styled by Wolfgang Möbius under guidance of Anatole Lapine, was mainly of galvanised steel but the doors, bonnet and boot were made of aluminium to save weight. Polyurethane elastic bumpers were integrated into the nose and tail and covered in body-coloured plastic; an unusual feature for the time that was intended as both a styling feature and to reduce drag. In 1980, the 928S was introduced with a larger 4.7 litre engine and wider wheels and tyres, whilst in 1987, the engine displacement was further increased to 4957cc with the introduction of the now highly desirable 928 S4.

This example was first registered on 28th February 1990 and is presented in Guards Red supplied by AFN Porsche London. Between its initial purchase and 2003, at which point this example covered 126,934 miles, the car was serviced faultlessly 15 times by Northway and JAZ Porsche however, in 2004 suffered a category C insurance loss which resulted in the then owner purchasing the car and deciding that if repairing he may as well part restore what was such a well maintained and desirable S4. The interior and bodywork is in line with such a well-kept car that has covered a mere 10,000 miles since what could be referenced as an older cosmetic restoration. Since 2016 we are informed the car has been stored as part of a small collection with only minor mileage between MoT certificates thus having decided to sell the car our vendor has recommissioned CBZ 356, given it a service with NVS and obtained a new MoT certificate. 928 S4’s have a wonderful 5.0 litre V8 offering up over 300bhp in a car which at the time was years ahead of some competitors.
