General information:
The Mercedes 280 SL is the successor to the Mercedes 250 SL that was built until 1967, the year in which the 280 SL was first introduced to the market. The timeless, sleek design that was introduced with the Mercedes 300 SE sedan in 1961 was continued in the 230/250/280 SL series; according to many still the most beautiful classic Mercedes since the sixties. The 280 SL is characterized by a very refined, lively, driving behavior and the very good constructive and technical build quality. In addition, the car offers a lot of space, comfort and practicality. The open two-person roadster can be fitted with a hardtop, turning the car into a closed coupé. The Mercedes-Benz 230/250/280 SL series was nicknamed "Pagoda" because of the design of the hardtop. From 1967 to 1971, Mercedes produced approximately 23,885 of the W113, 280SL "Pagoda". It is also the latest update of the SOHC M180 inline-six by Mercedes-Benz and buyers could opt for an optional limited slip differential. Heavier than its predecessors, the 230SL and 250SL, the 280 SL is popular with car enthusiasts and is known as one of the most reliable and sturdy Mercedes-Benz models ever produced.
