1971 | Mercedes-Benz 230 SL

The Mercedes-Benz W113 roadsters, designed by Paul Bracq, were produced from 1963 through to 1971 and were known as the 'pagoda roof' SL. All models boast an inline six-cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. Rear-wheel drive configuration was complemented by independent rear suspension, a feature that greatly improved road handling. The 230 SL made a remarkable debut at the prestigious Geneva Motor Show in March 1963 where the famous German engineer Fritz Nallinger introduced it as follows "It was our aim to create a very safe and fast sports car with high performance which, despite its sports characteristics, provides a very high degree of travelling comfort."

This late Mercedes-Benz Pagoda example was originally registered on 16th March 1971. The car you see here is nearly finished and is only being sold be the vendor due to lack of garage space. The paintwork is excellent and the trim work has been completed to a very high standard. The matching blue hood is new and complements the high quality of the works undertaken. Sold by ourselves in May 2021, the vendor has completed a lot of the work on this Pagoda, fitting of the lights, grille, exhaust etc. although the car still requires additional work to complete the car. A collection of parts will accompany this Pagoda to auction. At some point in the cars life it was fitted with a 2778cc Mercedes-Benz engine, this change is recorded on the V5C registration document which is present. Viewing is highly recommended; this desirable right hand drive automatic Mercedes-Benz is offered to auction at what can only be considered an extremely realistic price, taking into account the capital value when completed.
