In the late 1980s, Mercedes' management decided they wanted to give BMW a run for its money with a new rival to their M5, based on the acclaimed W124 E-Class. Mercedes' new M5 rival was in many ways a successor to the 300 SEL 6.3 and similarly needed to combine the comfort of a luxury sedan with the performance of a sports car. Because the Mercedes plant was running at maximum capacity and the company was not really prepared for a low-volume production model, a partner organization was sought to help with development and production.

A deal was struck in which Porsche was commissioned to act as subcontractor for what became known as "Project 2758. Porsche was responsible for virtually all the integration work required, including modifications to the W124 bodywork to accommodate a large 5.0L V8 engine. Porsche also fitted thicker fenders, new suspension (with shorter springs and Bilstein shock absorbers) and thicker stabilizer bars. Despite the changes made by Porsche, the new model was perhaps the most understated Super Saloon of its time. Only 10,479 units in total were built of this legendary model.

The 500E flaunts a powerful 5.0-liter V8 engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, delivering an impressive 322 horsepower. With acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h, this powerhouse dominates the road full of finesse and comfort. The later '93 and '94 models lost some of the power in an attempt to appease emissions settings, this reduced their horsepower to 315.

However, the W124 500E is not just built for speed; The interior exudes luxury, Recaro Sportline seats at the front, complemented by rear seats upholstered in the finest leather. Every detail is infused with class and comfort, making even the shortest drive towards the bakery a pleasure. With advanced features like ABS and Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR), ventilated disc brakes and a self-adjusting rear hydraulic suspension, the Mercedes offers not only power, but stability and control in every corner.

The impeccable exterior, immaculate interior and low mileage betray that this is a true enthusiast's car. If the perfect condition and few kilometers are not enough, this feeling is only reinforced by a well-stocked option list ... Executed in beautiful Blue Black metallic (199) combined with a black leather Recaro interior, this car steals every show. The owner opted for air conditioning, heated seats and a famous sound system with original Becker radio! Additional options such as an electric sunroof, heat-reflective glass, an electric sunblind, electric steering column adjustment, an alarm system and even central locking ensure that this beautiful 500E is still very nicely equipped even by today's standards.

It is quite noticeable that sports car manufacturer Porsche interfered with the suspension. Once at speed, the sporty qualities come to the fore, in fast cornering it stays nice and flat, and on the highway, the engine's tremendous smoothness is especially striking. The amount of pulling power is impressive, but the fact that that pulling power is available over such a wide rev range feels even more impressive. You won't tire of driving a 500E, in fact, the sounds of the eight-cylinder are fairly muted and it's only at high revs that the engine really makes itself heard. All in all, it is a very modest car that subtly shows that it is no ordinary E-Class, but a real wolf in sheep's clothing! If you long for a special car, which can compete with many a sports car in terms of performance while still adhering to Mercedes standards and values, then you can enjoy the 500E every day.

With only 90,371 km since new, it is abundantly clear that this W124 was only used for pleasure drives during perfect conditions. The car has always been maintained correctly and comes with an extensive appraisal report and complete service booklet. Every panel is perfectly straight and there is not a single scratch on the entire bodywork. Thanks to the comfortable seats and the ideal seating position, you will never want to give up this car!

Our Mercedes 500E is ready to take you wherever you want to go any time of the week, whether it's a relaxing getaway to the Belgian coast or a long road trip on the German autobahn.
