Description

Still today it is obvious, when Jaguar more than 50 years ago presented the Mk2, the world has seen a new super saloon. The Jaguar Mk2 is beautiful, elegant as well as spacy, a true luxury car. On top of this it was one of the fastest cars as well. The powerful straight six engine – with origins in the XK design – with double overhead camshafts, disc brakes on all 4 wheels as well as the comfortable interior, made the car very popular among wealthy customers. The top version of the MK 2 – like this car – was equipped with a powerful 3.8-liter engine producing 220bhp, which was more than double the power of most other cars in this class and made the Mk2 one of the fastest 4 door saloons on the market. The car was in high demand by owners on both sides of the law. It was the chosen “Get-away-Car” for many bad guys, and became world famous with the UK train robbery. The law enforcement and police also used it as a highly efficient patrol car, having a top speed of 200kph, sufficient to run down all other drivers regardless of whether they were in cars or on motorbikes. This is exactly these qualities and legacy that creates a classic car, which the Jaguar Mk2 is indeed – a real Q-car.

This car was imported from Holland in 2015 by a Danish enthusiast and well maintained ever since. In Holland the car was completely restored (documented and far too costly as well) a few years earlier, and today the car still presents perfect mechanically as well as in paint and interior. Everything works as it is supposed to do and it really is a pleasure to enter behind the steering wheel. The car was retrofitted with electrical servo assisted steering, which is a huge advantage, as the Mk2 can be quite heavy to maneuver especially when parking. This feature makes the car much more drivable and gives a modern feeling as well. The manual transmission – with overdrive – suits the car very well and emphasizes that this was a real driver’s car back in the sixties.

This example is in a condition far superior to the average, and the combination of well-functioning mechanics, the servo-assisted steering and the special feeling of being in an English country club or library when enjoying the cabin all adds up to the feeling of something quite extraordinary, calmly driving away. Or you may choose to challenge the significant speed potential, which is also part of the character of the car. Very reasonable price for such a fine example of the most attractive Mk2 Jaguar. So even if it was the chosen get-away car for bank robbers back in the sixties, you don’t need to rob a bank to get your hands on this one.
