Description

Westland Healey Roadster, year 1947 (first registration 28 February 1947). Chassis number C182X. Colour bronze metallic with a brown leather interior. This is a very special and rare British sports car; only 64 examples were built from 1946 until 1950. This magnificent Westland Healey was sold new in California, USA. In the year 1999, the automobile was imported to the Netherlands. From that moment on the car has known just one dedicated owner. This Westland Healey is a renowned participant in the revived Mille Miglia. The automobile has participated in this famous event in the years 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2018. All the lead ‘seals’, which were applied by Mille Miglia officials, are still present at the steering column. MM ‘approval’ decals are also still firmly attached to the windscreen as ‘silent witnesses’.

This automobile is in a super original condition! The car was only given new paint in the past. This originality and the scarcity make this automobile highly eligible to enter next editions of the Mille Miglia in the hands of a proud new owner. The Westland Healey was a sensation when it was presented to the public in 1946.

The car looked extremely modern in those post war years, even the Italians did not build anything this slick looking! Not only the looks were modern, the Westland Healey was also cleverly engineered with independently sprung suspension all round, X-braced box frame, a low weight of about 1000 kilogrammes and a Riley four-cylinder engine with overhead camshaft. A highly desirable sports car indeed!

This 1947 Westland Healey is in very good and super original condition! The car has been serviced and maintained in the workshops of Altena Classic Service since the year 1999; the car drives, shifts gear and brakes perfectly. The history is fully known and documented and all the previous owners are known.

The documentation holds old photos of important people in the Healey history like: Fred Cohen (see appendix from Donald Healey’s book ‘My World of cars’), Margo Healey (wife of Geoffrey Healey), Gerry Coker (designer of the Healey 100 body), Brian Healey (second son of Donald Healey), Ann Hall (rally driver) and Roger Menadue (chief mechanic of the Donald Healey Motor Company).[nbsp]In the years 1947 and 1948 Donald Healey entered the ‘Westland’ roadsters and saloons for many of the more important competitions. The cars gained class wins in the Mille Miglia, the Alpine Rally and the Targa Florio driven by Donald Healey himself!
