1934 | Bentley 3 1/2 Litre
Description
1934 Bentley 3.5 Litre VDP style Tourer.
Chassis number: B23CW
Registration Number: CPA912
This Derby Bentley sets the standards by which such cars should be judged. Simply put I have never driven a better one. The car belonged for several decades to Sargeants of Goudhurst who were well known pre war Derby Bentley & Rolls Royce speciaists. They set about over a 15 year period restoring it to as new mechanical condition with evey nut bolt & bearing changed & renewed as required. The result is one of the best driving Derby's in the world. You have to drive it to appreciate how good it is.
Body Work was entrusted to well known expert in the field of coachbuilding; James Pearce who did a masterful job of constructing an open tourer body with Vanden Plas being the inspiration for the design. Construction is a traditional Ash frame, itself a thing of beauty, overlaid with aluminium panels in the traditional manner. Drawing upon their extensive experience they got the lines just right producing a pretty car that looks wonderful from any angle. The car was then painted in burgundy with pewter as a secondary colour. The interior was beautifully upholstered in maroon leather along with matching carpets. A very high quality grey hood & matching tonneau cover were installed to complete the car.
Once finished the car was offered for sale some 11 years ago with 89529 recorded miles on the odometer. It is now for sale by the estate of the last owner who purchased the car from Sargeants. The car has now covered 92,000 miles so has seen very little but regular use since it was finished. A good file of bills & restoration pictures from Seargeants comes with the car. The chassis was powder coated to maroon prior to the body being installed & the wheels in Pewter grey.
If you are looking for perfection in a Derby Bentley along with many years of trouble free motoring then this car is very very well worth a look. We have handled many of these over the years & it is very seldom we come across one that looks & drives as well as this one does. The light coachwork & fresh engine giving it performance similar to that of its larger engined bretheren. It is a concours car that may be described as faultless.
