The 1955 Austin-Healey 100/4 BN1 is a landmark in British sports car history, named for its ability to exceed 100 mph—a rare feat in its era. Built from 1953 to 1955, it was the first of the legendary “Big Healeys” and the foundation of Donald Healey’s partnership with the Austin Motor Company.
Powered by a 2660cc inline-four with a 3-speed gearbox and overdrive, the BN1 delivered both speed and refinement, wrapped in a low, sleek roadster design with a long bonnet and minimalist cockpit.
With only about 10,000 produced, surviving BN1s are now highly prized by collectors for their scarcity, performance pedigree, and historical significance, representing the birth of an icon that shaped 1950s sports motoring.
This very rare first-generation stunning example was delivered new and registered in the Netherlands in July 1955. The original color was indeed black with a red interior, as confirmed by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust. The car remained in the Netherlands until 2008 and still had its original license plate! It was then imported to Belgium by its last owner.
It has undergone two restorations: a complete chassis restoration by a specialized Dutch workshop between 1993 and 1994, then a complete overhaul in 2009.
The lack of bumpers, the hood with the grilles, and the additional headlights give it a sporty look in keeping with the fashion of the time.
Handling is significantly improved by the installation of telescopic shock absorbers at the front.
The engine has been rebuilt and is equipped with an aluminum cylinder head and an additional electric fan for optimal cooling.
The car drives admirably, the chassis is perfectly solid, and this Healey has benefited from meticulous maintenance in recent years.
It features a soft top, side screens, and a tonneau cover. An invoice file also accompanies the vehicle including FIA and FIVA certification.
This amazing car has been recently imported from Belgium and is ready for a new registration to be driven by a new owner
