Description

The Aston Martin DB5 needs no introduction - it is undoubtedly the most famous and recognisable Aston Martin of all time.

Announced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1963, production of the DB5 ran from July 1963 until September 1965, during which just 898 of these iconic coupes were built. The standard 4.0-litre triple SU carburettor engine produced enough power to achieve a top speed of 148 mph. Early examples were fitted with a David Brown four speed manual gearbox with overdrive, with a three-speed automatic offered as an option. From chassis number DB5/1340 in late 1963, the ZF five-speed gearbox became standard equipment.

This particular Aston Martin DB5 was registered on 26th November 1965 to Elon Crowther and Son Ltd, Upper Mills, Slaithwaite, Huddersfield, and was originally finished in Autumn Gold with Red leather trim. The company was a prominent textile manufacturer, owning several wool-spinning mills in the area and employing around 300 people at its peak during the 1960s-1980s.

The next recorded owner was M. Young of Kingerby Hall, Market Rasen, Lincolnshire. In 1981, the car appears to have been exported to Australia, where the extensive history file records numerous owners. Period photographs show the car in 1985 still finished in Gold and fitted with a Webasto sunroof.

In 2012, the DB5 was repatriated to the UK and subsequently purchased by the current owner in 2013. Following limited use, he commissioned a full body-off restoration with Aston Engineering.

Now presented in the classic Silver Birch with Black leather trim and Black Wilton carpets, this DB5 also benefits from a number of desirable enhancements, include 4.2-litre upgrade to the original matching numbers engine and electronic power steering.

To conclude, this represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a DB5 that has benefitted from a complete Aston Engineering restoration and is presented in immaculate condition throughout.
