This beautiful Alvis TE21 first drove off the factory production line on March 3rd 1965 and impresses today as much, if not more so than it did in period. This wonderful convertible grand tourer is presented in its stunning, original colour combination of Metallic Sand Coachwork with Beige Hide interior, chocolate brown carpets, hood and hood bag. Equipped from new with top of the line options including Chrome wire wheels, Borg-Warner Automatic transmission and Power-Steering. Just 33 such cars were produced with an automatic transmission of which only 18 remain.

This example was supplied new by W.J.Skelly Ltd, Motherwell. These cars cost the same as an Aston Martin DB5 Convertible when new. Fitting to read that this example spent its early years residing in Edinburgh with the Duke of Edinburg Prince Philipe. From 1974 to 1990 the car made its way past the Equator to the southern hemisphere in New Zealand - there are a number of photographs of the car in Tauranga wearing the registration GW 1523. Following the passing of its NZ owner the Alvis found its way back up home to Coventry with Red Triangle in late 1990.

Fast forward to July 2020 where the car was acquired by keen motorist Roy and Gina. Under their care over £24,000 has been invested into the car including a host of mechanical improvements - used near and far by them its well know on the lawn at Goodwood.

Works carried out 2020-23

  • New front and rear springs and dampers, along with renewing all the bushes and links
  • Complete top end engine overhaul (including new valve seats to accommodate unleaded fuel)
  • Fuel system fully overhauled (including refurbished fuel tank and new fuel lines, etc)
  • Braking system refurbished/replaced (including new brake lines, callipers and discs)
  • Automatic gearbox refurbished by specialists in Birmingham to improve power transmission and smoothen the gear changes
  • Gauges were removed and overhauled (the original clock was sent to Switzerland for complete refurbishment and now keeps perfect time!)
  • Carburettors fastidiously overhauled and benefited from a 'rolling road' tune up
  • Head lights uprated and converted to halogen bulbs
  • Steering box removed and completely stripped and fully rebuilt, using correct replacement parts, giving the car a 'showroom fresh' feel at the wheel
  • Uprated entertainment system, installed 'retro style' radio, Bluetooth DAB/FM reception and a USB link for auxiliary devices
  • 5 new Michelin 185 HR15 XVS-P radial tyres (including the spare)
  • New Harvey Bailey 'handling kit' fitted April 2023, manufactured specifically for the Alvis TE21
  • Fuel pump fully overhauled
  • Cooling system fully flushed and all silt/residue removed (new core plugs fitted)
  • Original radiator was re-cored for maximum cooling, and the water pump was fully overhauled
