Few modern Porsche collector cars combine rarity, purity, and driving pleasure quite like the 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster. Introduced as a celebration of Porsche's legendary open-top heritage, the G-model Speedster was produced for one year only, with approximately 2,100 examples built worldwide. Inspired by the iconic 356 Speedster, the model is instantly recognizable by its dramatically lowered windscreen, lightweight manually operated hood, and distinctive double-hump rear tonneau cover, a design that has become one of the most celebrated silhouettes in Porsche history.
Presented here in the highly desirable factory colour Indian Red (027), this German delivered Speedster represents the very best of the breed. It retains its original matching-numbers drivetrain and has benefitted from meticulous care throughout its life. The chassis number, WP0ZZZ91ZKS152435, has been verified and the car remains true to its original configuration.

About this 911 Speedster

This is simply one of the finest G-model Speedsters we have encountered.

Originally delivered in Germany on 30 June 1989, it belongs to the coveted European specification cars equipped with the 231 PS 3.2-litre air-cooled flat-six engine and the highly regarded G50 five-speed manual gearbox. Unlike many collector cars that have spent years in static storage, this Speedster has been exercised, maintained and improved throughout its life by some of Germany's most respected Porsche specialists.

The car underwent a comprehensive refurbishment by renowned Porsche expert Manfred Freisinger of Karlsruhe, whose reputation within the Porsche collector community requires little introduction. Documentation confirms extensive maintenance under his ownership and supervision, ensuring exceptional attention to originality and detail. Further care was entrusted to Manufaktur 964 near Frankfurt am Main, where the car has been serviced and detailed for many years on behalf of a German Porsche collector.

The accompanying records show continuous specialist maintenance, including major servicing, fluid changes and mechanical improvements. In 2016, the car received an extensive service at Dronia Sportwagen, including valve adjustment, ignition service, oil system work and replacement of various hydraulic and oil lines.

The Speedster was granted German H-registration as an officially recognised historic vehicle in 2022 following DEKRA inspection, where it was noted as being in original specification with no deviations from factory configuration.

Exterior

Finished in factory Indian Red (027), the car presents beautifully and perfectly suits the dramatic wide-bodied Turbo-look Speedster design. The combination of flared rear arches, black Fuchs alloy wheels, lowered Speedster windscreen and iconic double-hump rear cover creates one of the most purposeful and elegant appearances Porsche has ever produced. A recent Classic Car House inspection rated the paintwork and overall presentation highly, while paint measurements indicate a very well-preserved body with excellent panel consistency throughout. The car's overall cosmetic condition received four out of five stars, reflecting a collector-grade presentation with only minor signs of use.

Interior

The original leather interior remains exactly as a Speedster should be, driver focused, elegant and unmistakably Porsche. The cockpit combines classic five-gauge instrumentation, supportive Turbo seats and superb visibility thanks to the low windscreen and minimalist Speedster philosophy.

This Turbo-look Speedster was specified with an impressive factory equipment list, including:

  • Electrical leather Turbo seats

  • Heated seats

  • Full leather interior

  • Air conditioning

  • Porsche radio

  • Turbo-look (M491) bodywork

  • Factory options: 139, 197, 243, 298, 340, 383, 387, 470, 491, 533 and 975

The interior presents exceptionally well and remains highly original, with only very minor age-related observations noted during the most recent inspection.

Engine and drivetrain

Power comes from Porsche's legendary 3.2-litre air-cooled flat-six producing 231 PS in European specification. Combined with the G50 gearbox, the result is one of the most engaging driving experiences ever offered by Stuttgart. The engine starts instantly, pulls strongly throughout the rev range and delivers the unmistakable soundtrack that only an air-cooled Porsche can produce. A recent compression analysis showed excellent results across all six cylinders, confirming the healthy condition of the engine.

Out on the road the car feels every bit as special as it looks. Steering response is sharp, gear changes are precise and mechanical refinement is exemplary. The engine and gearbox perform flawlessly and the driving experience is exactly why the G-model Speedster has become one of the most sought-after air-cooled Porsches of modern times.

And yes, the documented top speed remains approximately 240 km/h... naturally best explored on unrestricted autobahns.

Service and maintenance

The extensive accompanying file documents decades of specialist care and maintenance carried out by recognised Porsche experts.

Highlights include:

  • 08.03.2010 – Service by Manfred Freisinger, Karlsruhe at approximately 91,000 km.

  • 26.04.2016 – Major service at Dronia Sportwagen, including maintenance, ignition service, valve adjustment and extensive oil system work.

  • 25.07.2022 – Service and inspection by Manufaktur 964.

  • 28.06.2024 – Oil service at 116,000 km by Manufaktur 964.

  • German TÜV and DEKRA inspection records showing the vehicle repeatedly passing inspections without recorded defects.

Summary

Opportunities to acquire a truly exceptional 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster are becoming increasingly rare. Finding one that combines German delivery, matching numbers, factory Turbo-look specification, desirable Indian Red paintwork, documented specialist maintenance and restoration by Manfred Freisinger is rarer still.

This Speedster comes from a dedicated collector who owns several Speedsters and other desirable Porsches. Having been maintained regardless of cost and preserved to a remarkably high standard, it stands today as an outstanding example of one of the most collectible air-cooled 911 variants ever built.

Quite simply, this is one of the very best G-model Speedsters available on the market today.
