History
This Buick was built in Doraville, Georgia, and spent most of its life in Abbeville, South Carolina. It belonged to one family and is an original survivor car with one repaint 11 years ago. The car was used later in life to ferry grandchildren around by the original owner. When he passed away, the widow sold it to a small classic car dealer in Abbeville.
It was bought by a Mr. H Sink from Virginia, who kept the car for five years. He sold it to Jim's Rods and Classics, 11028 Leadbetter Rd, Ashland, VA 23005, United States.
The car was sold on to Art Kaz of 34 Motor Company LLC of 41 Derby Avenue, Derby, Connecticut.
I bought the car on the first of July, 2022, from this gentleman. and had it shipped over to the UK with Kevin Hill of Hill Shipping.
Work carried out on the vehicle in my ownership over the past three years.
Four new tyres with less than 300 miles on.
Four new Monroe shock absorbers
New period-correct style battery
New Wosp High Torque Starter Motor, which uses two-thirds less battery power on start-up
New belts, hoses, and clips
Rebuilt high-capacity radiator, including transmission oil cooler
Non-water-based high-heat coolant from 4 advanced coolants with a ten-year protection warranty
Rebuilt 4-barrel Rochester carburettor using modern fuel-resistant gaskets
Vacuum wipers replaced with an electric motor
Replaced the horn ring and rebuilt the indicator assembly
Push button start
New distributor cap,
New coil,
New capacitor,
New electronic ignition
New Blue Streak spark plug leads
Correct high heat AC Delco spark plugs
New multispark coil to distributor lead from Spitfire fuel catalyst, which raises the spark capacity to ignite the fuel
New period-correct wing mirrors that work from the driver's seat
New fuel lines, including an electric primer pump and one-way valves (fuel drains back to the tank if left standing)
New mechanical fuel pump
New water pump
New thermostat
The fuel tank was taken off and cleaned.
New tank sending unit. Rewired to the fuel gauge
New breather pipe
Lead antimony pellets in the tank from Spitfire fuel catalyst are good for 100,000 miles on modern fuels and also help prevent fuel degradation in winter.
Vehicle rewired to comply with UK lighting, including amber turn signals back and front
Correct low beam - high beam headlights
New period headliner, including sun visors
New door rubber
All steering and suspension nipples are greased with the correct high-temperature multi-grease
Complete new brake system using a modern dual master cylinder and brake pedal assembly
New brake lines throughout
New front wheel bearings
Recent oil change, including correct oil filter and correct Westway 20/50 high zinc motor oil
Fresh Westway EP 90 GL4 high rust resistant GL4 hypoid gear oil in rear diff.
The paint on the car is good with a couple of minor spots.
There is some age-related delamination to the windscreen
The chrome bumpers show some pitting in places and would require re-chroming to be a show car
The stainless steel is in good condition
The fluid drive torque ball is dry (prone to leak on these cars)
The car has been re-upholstered in the past with non-standard cloth, but it looks fine
All the gauges work. good oil pressure, fuel gauge, charging amps, the car runs cool on the temperature
gauge even in traffic because of the high-capacity radiator and special coolant.
The radio works, but not the clock.
The speedometer would need to be recalibrated, and possibly a new speedo cable, which I have not got around to, but I rely on Google maps to check the correct road speed on the road.
The car is reliable on the road. I have driven 80 to 90 miles on the motorway, and it keeps up with modern-day traffic.
I found no rust on the car except for the battery tray, which I replaced.
I have invested over £10,000 in the car, excluding labour.
I can assist with shipping.
