Bentley 8-Litre, built in 1930. Chassis number YM 5047, engine number YM 5047. The chassis, engine, and steering rack are original from the factory and have matching numbers. Colour: very dark blue combined with a black leather interior and black carpet. Grey mohair soft top and grey tonneau cover. This impressive and massive Bentley 8-Litre was sold new in the United Kingdom to Mr. R. Rowley, fitted with a four-door sports sedan body by the Carlton Carriage Company. Later owners were Mr. JH Dudley-Ward and Mr. RMR Eckard.
In 1965, the car was presented with a new four-seater 'open tourer' body built by the firm Hoffmann & Burton. The presentation following the restoration and build took place during the Kensington Gardens Bentley Club Meeting, where this special Bentley was crowned Champion of the event. In 2013, the Bentley was purchased by a Dutch Bentley collector and driver. The automobile is currently registered in the Netherlands; the original English license plates with number GY 6838 are still present. This impressive and rare Bentley 8-Litre is mentioned, described, and depicted in various Bentley books, such as 'Bentley 50 Years of the Marque' by Johnnie Green, published in 1969, page 130 (photo in its current form).
It also appears in the book 'Bentley: The Vintage Years' by Michael Hay, published in 1997, and in the specialist booklet 'The How and Where of the 8-Litre Bentleys' by Stanley Sedgwick, published in 1972. This magnificent Bentley 8-Litre is in very good and beautiful vintage condition with a fine patina of use. The automobile drives, steers, shifts, and brakes excellently. The gigantic 8-liter straight-six engine displays incredibly fine details, the exhaust produces the sound of heavy thunder, and the engine delivers enormous torque. The engine is equipped with three SU WB9002 carburetors and the original Bosch ignition. Between October 1930 and December 1932, only one hundred Bentley 8-liter production cars were delivered. This is a unique opportunity to purchase a very rare Bentley 8-liter with a beautifully documented history and provenance.
