Perfect for hill climbs
The Alvis 12/70 was to be the last vehicle design by George Lancaster (Lancaster brothers, pioneers of the British automotive industry).
It had a shorter chassis and a more powerful engine than its predecessors and was noted for its sporty characteristics.
The 12/70 also indirectly continued the tradition of the four-cylinder sports model 12/60, which was discontinued in 1933.
The vehicles had a 1.9-liter engine with overhead valves and 2 SU carburettors.
The 4-speed gearbox is synchronized except for 1st gear.
From 1937 to 1940, a total of 741 units were built, of which around 120 are said to have survived to this day.
According to the available Alvis Car Record, our vehicle was delivered on November 10, 1939 to Swallow, Milburn & Co. LTD in Newcastle on Tyne with a "Saloon" body.
The daughter of the first owner wrote down her memories of the car.
It remained in 1st hand until 1950, when it was sold on to the Midlands after an accident and rebuilt there as a special to take part in hill-climbs.
In 1996 it was restored again in England and sold to Germany in 2000.
Here the previous owner took part in various classic car events, e.g. Klausen Rennen 2002 and 2006 or Nürburgring Vintage in 2005.
The last owner to date acquired the Alvis 14 years ago.
In 2013/14, he had the engine completely overhauled and the performance subtly increased without compromising the durability. The invoices for this are available (approx. €22,000).
He also used the Alvis primarily in its designated territory: hill climbs
