For sale is a 1964 Vespa 50 N First Series with a registered 125 ccm Primavera engine.

This model is an early version of Vespa’s first small-frame series from the 1960s. Characteristic features of this series include the small side panel, the small fuel tank, the single-swing seat, and the so-called “swan-neck” taillight, which was originally installed on this model at the time.

Restoration

The Vespa was meticulously restored in 2001. The goal of the restoration was to restore the body, appearance, and details as faithfully as possible to the original, while at the same time upgrading the mechanical components to enhance reliability and riding pleasure.

Paint Job

Before painting, the body was glass bead blasted to prepare the sheet metal as gently as possible. The fuel tank was resealed on the inside by a specialized shop. V2A stainless steel screws were used wherever possible. Details such as the fork, rims, hub, fan cover, and other components were also painted to match, giving the scooter a very cohesive and high-quality overall appearance today.

The painting was carried out by a specialist shop in a light blue shade modeled after the original color. The paint code and the invoice for the painting work are available. Even today, some 25 years after the restoration, the paint is in very nice and well-maintained condition.

Engine

During the restoration, the engine and carburetor were overhauled. Wear parts were replaced with new parts or—where appropriate and available—with original parts. To significantly improve its suitability for everyday use, reliability, and riding enjoyment, the Vespa was fitted with a 125 ccm engine from a Primavera. This modification is registered. Following the restoration, a §21 StVZO inspection report was issued; the German road permit is on file.

The Vespa has been in my continuous possession since the restoration. Over the past 25 years or so, it has been stored in a dry, warm garage and driven only occasionally with a red license plate.

The engine turns over freely. After a long period of inactivity, the scooter currently won’t start; the throttle cable has snapped.
