This striking 2002 appears to be a legitimate Tii, with the build tag in the engine bay proudly proclaiming that this is the model that sat just one down from the top of the 02 range, when it was new in 1973. Only the wild and hugely rare and expensive 2002 Turbo sat above it. With the Tii’s 128bhp versus the Turbo’s 170bhp, it was certainly no slouch, 60mph arriving in just over eight seconds from a standstill. The top speed of the Tii was an equally impressive – especially in the early-1970s – 115mph.

This Tii has seemingly been extensively prepared for historic motorsport, with the carbon fibre bucket seats in the cabin sharing what limited space there is in these small saloons with a full roll cage. Despite the shell’s bracing – which extends to the suspension turrets front and rear – enough vestiges of comfort remain in this BMW to make it useable and enjoyable on the road too – though you should probably remove the front half of the cage or at least wear a helmet if you plan on putting it back on the road full time.
