The 1961 Willys M38A1 Jeep is an iconic military utility vehicle, representing the evolution of the legendary wartime Jeep into the Cold War era. Produced by Willys Motors, the M38A1 was the standardised light tactical vehicle of the U.S. military throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, succeeding the earlier Willys MB. Introduced in 1952, the M38A1 featured a stronger, fully boxed frame and a distinctive rounded hood and fenders—departing from the flat-panel design of its predecessor. Built to military specifications, the vehicle incorporated a waterproof 24-volt electrical system, reinforced suspension and high ground clearance, enabling reliable operation in extreme conditions including deep water fording. By 1961, the M38A1 was in widespread service not only with U.S. forces but also with allied militaries worldwide

This lovely example was originally consigned to the Dutch Army. It has a new 24-volt twin belt alternator, 24-volt wiper motors and a long list of new parts fitted. It is presented in traditional military green with the US military white star on the bonnet but does come with a side mounted stretcher as it was originally a First Aid vehicle (Red Cross). The present owner purchased the Jeep for the sole reason to participate in the 80th D-Day commemorative celebrations in Normandy last year where they proudly drove it in convoy with other similar vehicles. The Jeep comes with good history file and is complete with a full tilt and canvas doors and canvas roof covering. We are informed that there is a blowing from the exhaust manifold which will need attention. Today, the M38A1 is highly regarded among collectors for its rugged engineering, historical significance and unmistakable profile. A 1961 example offers an authentic snapshot of mid-20th-century military design and stands as a compelling addition to any collection of historic utility vehicles. Consigned by James Good
