The Triumph Roadster was produced by Britain's Standard Motor Company from 1946 to 1949. It was first available as the Triumph 1800 Roadster from 1946 to 1948 and then as the Triumph 2000 Roadster from 1948 to 1949. Triumph had been purchased by the Standard Motor Company in 1944 and the managing director of Standard, Sir John Black, wanted a sports car to take on Jaguar, who had used Standard engines in the pre-war period. Frank Callaby was selected to style the new car and worked with Arthur Ballard to design the body. The only significant update in the Roadster's production came in September 1948 when the 2088cc Vanguard engine, transmission, and rear axle were fitted. This later version of the Roadster was given the model designation TRA. The car was never manufactured in large numbers and was mainly hand built. A total of 2,501 examples of the 1800 and 2000 were built with production ending in October 1949.

This example is presented in white with a brown interior and has a new black mohair hood. This has been the cherished vehicle of the present owner's late husband who used it as his daily driver up until March/April this year. Although the engine has not run since this time, it does turn over but will need some light recommissioning prior to driving it on the road and therefore we recommend it to be transported away from the auction. These British sports cars are very versatile having the use of the 'dicky' seat to the rear offering seating for two more passengers. The car resided in Belgium for a period of time and was imported back to the UK in 2002 when it was registered with the DVLA. It would appear, owing to a small metal badge mounted to the rear stating CD, that it was owned once upon a time by an individual in the Diplomatic Corps but there is no paperwork to substantiate this. The car has had its new mohair hood fitted recently, and the dashboard and door cappings are in good condition, as well as the seats. It comes with a history file containing various receipts in Belgian and English showing works done in the past. Consigned by James Good
