HISTORY
Introduced in the late 1950s and produced until 1980, the Saab 96 is one of the most iconic models of the Swedish marque. Its aerodynamic design, directly influenced by Saab’s aeronautical background, together with its robustness and front-wheel drive, made it a standout performer both on the road and in competition — notably with Erik Carlsson’s famous Monte Carlo Rally victories in the early 1960s.
In 1967 Saab replaced the earlier three-cylinder two-stroke engine with the new V4 unit derived from the Ford Taunus. The result was a more reliable, smoother, and versatile car that retained Saab’s unmistakable character while offering greater comfort, solidity, and driving pleasure on any terrain.

OUR CAR 
This Saab 96 V4 was first registered in Italy in 1971 by a well-known agent of the Banca Nazionale del Lavoro in Vimercate, who used it for about a year. When the bank offered him a transfer to Argentina, he sold the car to the SB dealership in Mantua, owned by Pavesi, which used this very example for a photo shoot later published in Ruoteclassiche.

After several years, the car passed into the hands of a passionate Mantuan collector, who kept it with great care until recently, when it became part of its current collection.
The car presents itself today in excellent overall condition, having been regularly serviced and correctly maintained throughout its life. Both the interior and exterior, as well as the mechanical components, retain a remarkable level of originality and reflect the meticulous attention it has received over the years.

This Saab 96 V4 is also certified with the Gold ASI plaque, confirming its historical significance, authenticity, and excellent state of preservation.

 STORIA 
Nata alla fine degli anni Cinquanta e rimasta in produzione fino al 1980, la Saab 96 è una delle vetture più iconiche della casa svedese. Il suo design aerodinamico, frutto diretto dell’esperienza aeronautica del marchio, e le sue doti di robustezza e trazione anteriore la resero protagonista di straordinari successi sportivi, in particolare nei rally: basti pensare alle vittorie di Erik Carlsson al Monte Carlo nei primi anni Sessanta.
Nel 1967 Saab introdusse il nuovo motore V4 di origine Ford Taunus, che andò a sostituire il precedente tre cilindri a due tempi. Il risultato fu un’auto più affidabile, fluida e adatta all’uso quotidiano, capace di mantenere il carattere unico Saab unendo comfort, solidità e una piacevole guidabilità su ogni tipo di terreno.

LA NOSTRA VETTURA 
Questa Saab 96 V4 fu immatricolata in Italia nel 1971 da un noto agente della Banca Nazionale del Lavoro di Vimercate, che la utilizzò per circa un anno. Quando la banca gli propose un trasferimento in Argentina, decise di venderla a un concessionario SB di Mantova, la ditta Pavesi, che utilizzò proprio questo esemplare per un servizio fotografico successivamente pubblicato su Ruoteclassiche.

Dopo alcuni anni, l’auto passò nelle mani di un appassionato collezionista mantovano, che la conservò con grande attenzione fino a tempi recenti, quando entrò a far parte della collezione attuale.
La vettura si presenta oggi in ottime condizioni generali, correttamente tagliandata e regolarmente manutenzionata nel corso degli anni. Gli interni, la carrozzeria e la meccanica conservano un elevato livello di originalità e testimoniano la cura costante con cui è stata mantenuta.

Questa Saab 96 V4 è inoltre certificata con Targa Oro ASI, riconoscimento che ne attesta l’importanza storica, l’autenticità e l’eccellente stato di conservazione.
