Riley RMs are highly regarded among postwar family cars. They're more elegant than most, very comfortable and, with the two-litre 'Big Four', by no means sluggish and were even frequently found as entrants in various rallies around the world. Its first owner was Arthur Bassett of Swansea and, with a prior owner acquiring it in 2018, it was getting tired by this stage. It then went into storage before it was sold again in 2015 which was when the restoration properly started.
The engine was extracted and overhauled and clutch replaced. A new wiring loom and cooling fan was then installed together with trafficators made working. The brakes needed new linings and cylinders with all new parts sourced from the Riley RM Centre. This included a new fuel tank and black vinyl roof, although this does require a little tlc now since the restoration. It was also repainted from black to its current Sherwood Green with the addition of an off-white mid-section. Whilst the paintwork and chrome are not perfect now, the interior has remained untouched and still represents a place that transports you back to the 1950s. The RMF is the last car built with the 'Big Four' engine and is thus considered to be the last 'real' Riley by purists. Additional fog lights have been added, front and rear as well as new wheels and tyres. Attractively priced, this represents a competitive entry into classic car ownership.
