1961 | Porsche 356 B 1600 Super

Today, I'm offering you a very exceptionally beautiful Porsche 356 Cabriolet, which we have been undergoing a full restoration since mid-2023.

WHAT MAKES THIS CAR SO SPECIAL?

What makes this Porsche special is its exceptionally good sheet metal condition even before the restoration and the dip-painting of the body in a specialist workshop (like a new car) before final assembly.

Start of the Work

After the car was completely disassembled, the body, including the doors, was chemically stripped at the Syre company in Bönen, revealing the bare metal condition of the car. This revealed that the body was in incredibly good sheet metal condition (by no means a rust bucket). We only had to perform minor welding and tinning work afterwards (spare wheel well with battery area, driver's side front floor, passenger door floor). By then, it became clear to us that a 356 with this great sheet metal would be very difficult to find on the market, even in California.

After completing the very straightforward sheet metal work, the Porsche was returned to Syre (WWW.ENTLACKERHELDEN.DE), where it was chemically derusted (surface rust) and then cathodic dip-coated like a new car.

This means that all corners, cavities, and folds are now permanently and perfectly protected against corrosion, much better than when it was first delivered in 1961. The sheet metal work was performed by a highly experienced body builder specializing in classic cars and is no longer recognizable.

Highlights of the next steps:

• Sealing and caulking all exposed metal edges and folds

• Authentic, thin coating of the underbody, engine compartment, and trunk with a plastic-based anti-noise material/underbody protection

• Painting of the underbody, interior (excluding the dashboard), trunk, and engine compartment with a satin-gloss acrylic paint

• Powder coating of the removable chassis components

• Complete engine overhaul: cylinder head overhaul, new pistons and cylinders, replacement of all bearings and seals, etc.

• Complete overhaul and installation of the front axle and steering system

• Complete overhaul and installation of the rear axle

• Complete overhaul and installation of the brake system

• Installation of a brand-new wiring harness including a 12-volt conversion

• Installation of the engine and transmission

• Exterior painting of the vehicle including a completely new premium-quality paint system, Spiess-Hecker paint system, color: Dolphin Gray, Porsche 356 color code: 6410

• Installation of the external components with great precision and Care

• Chrome parts were re-chromed or replaced

• All rubber parts were, of course, replaced

• All worn or unsightly parts were overhauled or replaced

• Replacement of the black Sonnenland convertible top cover including a matching light gray headliner, new black Sonnenland tonneau cover

• Replacement of the entire interior insulation

• Interior carpet in original anthracite fine bouclé

• New molded upholstery and spring cores for the front seats

• New full-leather interior in black nappa leather, Porsche quality

• Complete overhaul of the instruments and the car radio by Blaupunkt Frankfurt

Special Features

Engine and transmission numbers correspond to the original delivery (see Kardex delivery document). MATCHING NUMBERS. All sheet metal components bear the original factory stamps and are part of the vehicle. The convertible was built by Karmann in Osnabrück and originally delivered with a fixed hardtop.
