Description

MG TC Midget – Chassis TC/0527 | Engine XPAG 1309

Price: €29,995                       Year: 1948                             Miles: 17,141 (indicated)

Built between 1945 and 1949, the MG TC Midget marked MG’s triumphant post-war return. It was very much a buyer’s market at the time, both in Britain and abroad, yet the TC defied the odds. MG quickly found success, producing over 10,000 units—more than triple the total of any previous MG model.

Powered by a 1,250 cc 4-cylinder OHV engine mated to a 4-speed gearbox, the TC delivered 54 bhp (32 kW), propelling its lightweight 787 kg frame to a thrilling top speed of 75 mph (120 km/h) and not for the faint hearted. Its blend of charm, nimble handling, and sporty spirit – for the period - helped establish the British sports car craze in the U.S. and beyond.

This particular example, Car No. TC/0527, retains what is believed to be its original engine (XPAG 1309) and appears to have spent most of its life in Australia. The earliest traceable history begins in 1996 with Brian J. Hemmings, who sold the car in April of that year to Andrew House—both names documented in a sales contract included in the file.

While the majority of invoices on file are from House’s ownership, a handwritten note by him adds an interesting layer: the car had reportedly undergone an extensive restoration (pictures also in the file) in the 1980s and had previously belonged to Mr. Gordon Cameron Davis, who sadly passed away in December 1984.

In July 2001, Andrew House sold the TC to John Firth-Smith for $23,000 AUD, again with documentation included. A year later, in June 2002, the car was shipped to Germany by Vintage Cars GmbH (Herdecke, 58212), where it was officially registered in October 2004. A copy of the original KFZ-Brief (registration papers) confirms its import date of 28.10.2004, and lists Mrs. Barbara Kiesler as the new owner.

Her ownership was brief. In December 2005, she sold the car to its final German custodian—documented via a handwritten sales contract. This passionate enthusiast would keep the car for two decades, until his passing in the summer of 2025. His dedication is well-evidenced by the collection of invoices and meticulous records spanning his ownership. For the past 10 years, the car was driven on private trade plates, lovingly maintained and regularly driven in his home town.

Now, for the first time in decades, this charming MG TC is once again offered for sale—presented with a new roadworthiness inspection and a richly documented international history. A rare opportunity to own a genuine post-war icon with character, provenance, and undeniable charm.
