The Mercedes-Benz 320 N Cabriolet A is a convertible that was built between 1937 and 1942 by the German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. The new model was lower, longer and wider than its predecessor, the Mercedes-Benz 290 of the type W18, which had started production in 1933. The new model was first shown at the Berlin Motor Show in 1937. The design process of the new Mercedes-Benz 320A was led by former racing driver Max Sailer and its distinctively sporty appearance was partly due to the influence of the luxurious Mercedes-Benz 540K, the model that was called the "Silver Arrow".
Design
In 1938, Germany introduced the law for the use of low-octane gasoline, which virtually stopped the production of sports cars. However, Mercedes-Benz had no intention of ceasing production of their highly successful sports car model. The W18 engine was again upgraded, this time to 85 mm and its volume to 3405 cm³. Compression was reduced from 6.6 to 6.25, while retaining the power and speed of the previous model. This modified engine, known as the M142 II, was coupled to a newly designed four-speed gearbox and equipped with an overdrive. This version of the Mercedes-Benz 320A with its larger engine volume was produced until the war disrupted and stopped production of the model in 1942.
This Mercedes-Benz presented here is a completely restored car in Switzerland. It was completely restored by the well-known restorer Szielasko. The car was finished in 2008. Invoices are still available for this. Furthermore, there are many photos available in the file of the gradual construction of the convertible. The fits are all correct and a great deal of chrome and polished stainless steel was used. This gives the car a very distinguished and distinguished appearance. It is a beautiful 6-cylinder convertible that is very similar to the Mercedes 540. A beautiful open Mercedes for the absolute enthusiast.
