To coincide with the launch of the new, lower-priced executive models, positioned below the MB W 108 and W 109, the inline-six engine lineup was revised in 1967. The 2.5-liter engine was enlarged to 2,778 cc (169.5 cu in) and renamed the M 130 for both the carburetor version with 140 hp (103 kW; 138 PS) at 5,200 rpm and the fuel-injected version with 160 hp (118 kW; 158 PS) at 5,500 rpm.

The 3.5 L V8 Models
Following the positive reception of the limited-edition 6,333 cc (386.5 cu in) M 100 V8-powered 300 SEL 6.3 in 1967, Mercedes-Benz offered the brand-new 3.5 L M 116 V8 engine with the new Bosch D-Jetronic electronic fuel injection in 1969. This V8 engine would further establish the W 108/W 109 in many export markets and make them more competitive in the United States, where many passenger cars, particularly American luxury brands, were equipped with V8 engines. The new V8 engine, rated at 200 hp (147 kW; 197 PS) at 5,800 rpm, was first installed in the W 109 in August 1969 as the 300 SEL 3.5 and in July 1970 in the W 108 as the 280 SE/SEL 3.5.

This 280 SE 3.5 L is a highly original car that was originally delivered in Italy. It has been in the Netherlands since 1996 and has been partially restored, with all rubber seals and non-working parts replaced. It is fitted with Pullman upholstery that still looks excellent. It drives perfectly and has only 135,000 km on the odometer. The booklets and data card are included. This is a very nice and rare Mercedes 3.5 L that is definitely worth a look.
