Mercedes 220 SE Ponton Cabrio – Handmade in Germany. The lived and detailed quality!

The Mercedes Ponton Cabrio, which was mostly built by hand, came onto the market in July 1956 as the 220 S Cabrio and was extremely expensive at DM 21,500. These convertibles were very elaborate and of high quality. With the reinforced floor pan, the convertibles were around 100 kg heavier than the feudal 220 sedans despite their shorter wheelbase. From 1958, the last convertibles were also available as a rare, performance-enhanced SE version with fuel injection. However, Mercedes was able to achieve the improved performance and slightly better fuel consumption of the injection engine at a considerable additional cost of 1900 DM.

This late Mercedes 220 SE convertible is one of those rare fuel injected vehicles. Almost 10 years ago, the luxurious open beauty was extensively restored and is still in a very beautiful condition. Both visually and technically!
