1963 Jaguar E-Type Series I 3.8 FHC
Description
We are delighted to offer this home market, UK RHD matching numbers Jaguar E-Type Series One 3.8 FHC onto the market. This subtly upgraded car, finished in Primrose with Black leather upholstery was manufactured on the 6th June 1963 and was distributed from Sanderson & Holmes Ltd, Derby. Highfield Motors in Derby then supplied the car new to a H.V Davies of Sutton Coldfield. Accompanying the car is the original brown ‘buff’ logbook confirming its early owners, the original pre restoration data plate and Heritage Certificate confirming all factory details. In 1973 the E-Type, 9769 HA was purchased by a Mr Yates who used the car until parking it up in his garage in 1987. Due to a growing family, the E-Type wasn't even looked at for thirteen years and in 2000, after 27 years of ownership it was sold in need of restoration. With a battery and some basics, the E-Type did manage to run and drive, but was collected by trailer ahead of a full strip down to the bare shell. The bonnet, doors, tailgate, engine, gearbox, rear axle, interior and all trims, glass and front frame were removed ahead of the bare shell being sand blasted. The shell was then put on a rotisserie and new panels from Martin Robey fitted to include door skins, front wing panels, new inner and outer sills, boot floor, new footwells and rear panel. The body was then prepared, lead loaded as original and given to a highly experienced classic car painter. The underside was all protected with Gravitex stone chip and the shell and panels then beautifully painted. The car was then built up with renewed brightwork, new runners, trims, zinc plated UNF nuts, bolts and washers throughout.
The engine was stripped down and completely rebuilt. New pistons, con rods, main and big end bearings were fitted, the crankshaft re-ground, the cylinder head rebuilt for unleaded and the flywheel balanced. The triple carbs were fully rebuilt, as was the original gearbox and a new six branch exhaust manifold and stainless steel system fitted from Classicfabs. The cooling system was renewed and upgraded with an improved radiator core and a Cool Cat fan was fitted. The rear axle blasted, painted and rebuilt with new bearings and seals, the suspension blasted and zinc plated, and adjustable front suspension reaction plate from Bob Beere racing was fitted along with all new shock absorbers. A re-conditioned steering rack and new ball joints were fitted, the electrics fully renewed with a new wiring loom, new electronic ignition, re-conditioned dynamo, a new high torque starter motor, and all new lights and conversion to negative earth. Brakes were rebuilt with new discs, calipers, hoses and later upgraded to Zeus twin pot calipers with vented discs, a popular early E-Type upgrade.
The interior was completely rebuilt, seat frames were sandblasted and painted, seats, door cards and panels all re-trimmed and the headlining replaced. A new aluminium dash panel was fitted and right throughout the car true attention to detail is noted in terms of the finishing. New Pirelli tyres and a brand new set of 6" wide chrome wire wheels were fitted to beautifully finish off the car. A full restoration run down, some photographs and huge file of invoices all come with the car supporting this top class rebuild.
By 2009 the E-Type was back on the road and it's covered around 9000 miles since completion. The car has done some major U.K. touring with the Jaguar club and more recently the E-Type has had a later Series One 4.2 all syncromesh gearbox fitted for improved driving. The original gearbox is with the car of course. At this point the car had a new clutch, new silicone hose set, a new stainless steel clutch hose and a new rev counter generator. Needless to say, the car has arrived with us in truly exceptional condition. The car presents beautifully externally, the engine bay is magnificent and the interior and underside beautiful. On the road it does not disappoint either, it's truly outstanding to drive and in mechanically excellent order as one would expect having had such a meticulous rebuild, and careful use since. This U.K. home market car is an incredibly special car and one for the discerning buyer.
