Description

Launched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show, the Jaguar E-Type was nothing short of a revelation. With its heady blend of supercar performance, breathtaking styling and low price tag, the newcomer left rivals reeling and customers clamouring. Early sportscar racing success at the hands of Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori amongst others helped cement its reputation. Built as a monocoque with a front sub-frame to cradle the engine, the model's combination of all-round independent suspension, rack and pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes gave it excellent road holding and handling capabilities. The Jaguar E-Type Series I 2+2 was designed to be a more practical version of the legendary E-Type, with a longer wheelbase and additional interior space. It was produced from 1966 to 1967, and it featured a 4.2 litre inline-six engine that produced 265bhp. One of the most notable features of the Jaguar E-Type Series I 2+2 is its sleek and timeless design. The car has a long, flowing hood and a low-slung profile that gives it a sense of speed and power.

This stunning example was first registered on 10th April 1970 and presents in a deep burgundy coachwork over an original grey leather interior. This automatic example of the 2+2 is the ultimate in looks and E-Type practicality. From photographic history and bills, we believe this E-Type was restored circa 2017. With only 74,000 miles on the odometer which is believed to be correct and with six documented keepers, the interior shows a wonderful patina and the 4.2 litre engine start and idles wonderfully. Benefiting from a full stainless steel exhaust and rebuilt gearbox at 72,521 miles, the car is accompanied by its original buff logbook, original handbook, itemised bills from specialists and an Mot test certificate valid until August 2025 with no advisories. Good honest E-Types are still one of classic motoring's great pleasures and this rare automatic 2+2 can transport you, your spouse, children and luggage to any classic event this summer and with the bonus of a Webasto retractable roof so it can all be done with an open top keeping you cool and enjoying the British summer.
