The Jaguar Mk. II was a medium sized saloon built from 1959 to 1967 as a successor to the 2.4 and 3.4 litre models. The Mk. II was handsome, powerful and good handling saloon which was offered with a choice of three six-cylinder twin cam engines; 2.4 litre, 3.4 litre or 3.8 litre. After the appreciation of the Mk. I, Jaguar's successor was well received thus making a good car even better. Similar in appearance but with a bigger glass area, it boasted a wider track to improve road holding together with minor front suspension changes to reduce body roll and fitted with the new Dunlop disc brakes all-round rather than drum brakes. The 210bhp 3.4 litre engine variant proved to be the most popular, offering the best compromise between performance and economy. Naturally, the performance was excellent and the Mk. II has enjoyed great success on the track and can still be a very competitive historic race car. Raced by all the top drivers of the day including Graham Hill, Roy Salvadori and Michael Parkes, the Mk. II scored victories throughout saloon car races in the 60's and was also raced across Europe in the Tour De France and Monte Carlo rally.

A highly appealing and well-sorted example of the iconic sporting saloon, this 1966 Jaguar Mk. II is presented in elegant dark metallic blue with a classic black leather interior. A matching-numbers car, it is accompanied by a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate confirming its provenance and is registered as a Historic Vehicle. Subject to an earlier restoration, the car benefits from a full engine rebuild completed in the 1990s, since then it has covered approximately 5,000 miles. Today it offers a notably enhanced driving experience, combining period charm with a carefully considered programme of upgrades. These include rack-and-pinion power steering from the Jaguar XJ-S, uprated four-pot front calipers with a new servo, and a limited-slip differential. Further improvements comprise of a new alternator with negative-earth conversion and a new high torque starter motor has just been fitted, 123 electronic ignition with Bluetooth capability, two-inch SU carburettors, mild fast-road camshafts, and a manual electric choke. A stainless-steel exhaust system and adjustable rear shock absorbers further enhance performance and usability.

Externally, the car features Coombs-style bonnet louvres and spats, Sundym windscreen glass and a heated rear window (currently inoperative). It rides on chrome wire wheels with removable period-style whitewall trims, reinforcing its classic sporting stance. Inside, the cabin is equipped with front and rear inertia seat belts and a period Moto-Lita steering wheel, along with a largely complete period toolkit. Mechanically, the car is reported to be in strong order, with oil pressure of approximately 40 psi when hot. The all-synchromesh manual gearbox and overdrive operate smoothly, contributing to a refined yet engaging driving experience. Displaying a gentle patina from its earlier restoration, this Mk. II retains considerable presence and charm, offering an attractive balance between originality, usability and discreet performance enhancement. Consigned by James Good
