After approximately 100,000 Rover 2000 models had been produced, the Rover 3500 was introduced in April 1968 and remained in production until spring 1977.

Powered by a 3,528 cc V8 engine—the former Buick small-block V8, originally producing 158 kW in the Buick Special—Rover saw an opportunity to distinguish itself within the British Leyland group from its sporting sibling, the Triumph 2000. Since 1967, this exceptionally lightweight aluminum engine had already been used, with slightly higher output, in the refined Rover 3½-Litre.

In the Rover 3500, the engine produced approximately 110 kW, while the Mk II version with emission control delivered around 104 kW.

The Rover 3500 was equipped as standard with a three-speed Borg-Warner Type 35 automatic transmission (commonly referred to as the BW35), later replaced by the Borg-Warner Type 65.

In 1971, the Rover 3500 S was introduced, featuring a four-speed manual gearbox, distinctive "Rostyle" wheel trims, and an increased output of approximately 113 kW.

Thanks to a curb weight of only around 1,300 kg, the Rover 3500 achieved a top speed of approximately 188 km/h (117 mph) and accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in around 11 seconds, making it one of the most powerful executive saloons of its era.

We are pleased to offer this 1973 Rover 3500 V8 in left-hand-drive configuration.

The vehicle is currently in the hands of its fifth owner. The original registration document listing all four previous owners is included.

The previous owner kept the car from 1982 onwards. An exceptional history file accompanies the vehicle, including more than 130 documents consisting of parts invoices, workshop bills, and even fuel receipts covering the last 43 years.

In 1984, the Rover was professionally repainted from its original red to its current Arden Green finish.

The beige interior remains in largely original condition. The only notable modification is a period-correct radio installed in 1987.

The sale also includes an extensive collection of spare parts, including windows, a boot lid, a bonnet (NADA), and numerous smaller components.
