The values of these wonderful cars are now following the same upward climb as the Pagodas. In March 1962, Mercedes-Benz released the 300 SE Coupé. The car featured the Daimler-Benz top of the range 2996cc engine and, as such, this vehicle remained deliberately split from the rest of the W111 family to emphasise the differences in the much higher level of specification. Today, the 1965 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Coupé is revered as a collector's gem, symbolising an era of automotive mastery and craftsmanship that continues to captivate enthusiasts worldwide.

Presented in attractive dark blue metallic over black leather, and only available for sale due to health issues, this 1965 Mercedes-Benz 300 SE Coupé is a particularly rare and desirable example. Of the 2,419 W112 Coupés produced, only 270 were built in right hand drive configuration. This car is rarer still as one of only a few specified with the sought-after factory four-speed manual gearbox. Powered by Mercedes’ 2,996-cc M189 fuel-injected straight-six engine which was replaced in the late 1980s, it is complemented by factory power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and the marque’s renowned Bosch air suspension system.

Importantly, the car has recently benefitted from a substantial programme of specialist mechanical work undertaken by Templar Classics in April 2026. The air suspension system was comprehensively refreshed with four new bellows and associated fittings before being recalibrated and tested. Steering and suspension components were overhauled with a new kingpin assembly, rebuilt steering idler, replacement tie-rod ends, and wheel alignment. Additional work included replacement of the right-rear wheel bearing and seals, refurbishment of the rear brake support arm assemblies with new bearings and mounts, and installation of associated service items. This significant recent investment at a cost of £8,119.74 addresses many of the key maintenance considerations associated with the sophisticated W112 platform. The paint continues to present well, while the lightly patinated black leather interior retains much of its original character. Features include extensive wood veneer trim, a Becker Grand Prix radio, factory-correct steering wheel, and well-preserved brightwork throughout.

Accompanied by an extensive history file containing invoices, old MoT test certificates, photographs, magazine features, and records of participation in Mercedes-Benz Owners’ Club events that all reflect a long-term enthusiast ownership. This rare and elegant W112 Coupé combines rarity, usability, and recent specialist attention in equal measure, making it ideally suited to concours events, weekend touring, or long-distance continental motoring.
