In the early post-war years, Jaguar used the designation “Mk” (Mark) for its model range. The legendary Mk II (1959–1969) became famous as a compact sporting saloon, popular with both police and criminals in the United Kingdom, and later gained further recognition through television series. For its large luxury saloons, Jaguar used the names Mk V, Mk VII, Mk VIII and Mk IX between 1948 and 1961. Introduced in 1950, the Jaguar Mk VII is widely regarded as the first truly modern large Jaguar saloon, powered by the renowned XK six-cylinder engine.

At the time, Jaguar marketed the Mk VII under the slogan “Grace, Space and Pace.” This referred to the most elegant car at any motor show (Grace), offering accommodation for five to seven adults and four large suitcases (Space), while also delivering a top speed of more than 100 mph (160 km/h) and “phenomenal” acceleration (Pace). A framed original 1951 promotional poster featuring this slogan accompanies the car. In addition, an impressive collection of original brochures, road tests, magazine articles and other period literature forms part of the extensive documentation file.

The Jaguar Mk VII offered here was originally delivered new in Louisiana, United States, in 1951 and has been registered in the Netherlands since 2000. Prior to receiving its Dutch registration, the car underwent a complete restoration between 1996 and 1999. During this restoration, the engine was also fully rebuilt. No fewer than three photo albums documenting the restoration process in detail have been preserved with the car.
In 2010, the Jaguar was entered in the prestigious Concours d’Élégance at Het Loo Palace, where it was judged and awarded a First-in-Class prize.

To this day, the Jaguar remains in exceptionally beautiful condition, both inside and out. The six-cylinder engine still produces the wonderfully smooth and refined burble with which this Jaguar left the factory some 75 years ago. The manual gearbox operates with lightness and precision, making the car surprisingly lively and enjoyable to drive. The wooden dashboard provides the perfect finishing touch to the luxurious ambience of the 1950s.
Both the front and rear side windows can be opened, and together with the steel sliding sunroof they create a wonderfully airy driving experience. Behind the wheel of this Jaguar, one takes a genuine step back in time and enjoys to the fullest the “Grace, Space and Pace” for which the Mk VII became renowned.
