1960 | Facel Vega HK 500

The 1960 Facel Vega HK-500, finished in silver-grey metallic with a blue leather interior, is a rare and fully restored classic in top condition. The restoration was carried out by Amicale Facel Holland under the supervision of Facel Vega expert Hans Ruhé. No expense or effort was spared to perfect the car down to the smallest detail and to equip it with several discreet modern improvements.

History
The car was built in March 1960 and ordered by the French steel company USINOR. In 1964, it was traded in for a Facel II, after which a Dutch owner purchased it in 1965. He drove it more than 230,000 kilometers until 1969. In the following years, the car changed hands several times. In 1978, Hans Ruhé rediscovered the HK-500 as a non-running project, but it was not until 1997 that he was able to buy it back. By then, the body had been cut into pieces, and the parts remained in storage for many years. In 2021, AFH began a complete reconstruction and restoration.

Restoration and technical details
The bodywork was completely restored, KTL-treated, and repainted in its original color. The original 383 V8 engine was replaced with a fully rebuilt Chrysler 413 cui (6.7-liter) Wedge V8, as used in the manual Facel II. The carburetors were overhauled, and the electrical system was entirely renewed, including electronic ignition, an alternator, and an electric fuel pump.

The cooling system received a new radiator, electric fans, and an improved water pump. The car features a modern four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and lock-up converter, and the braking system has been upgraded with Girling brake calipers and ventilated discs providing 25% more braking power. In addition, the car is equipped with electric power steering.

The interior has been completely reupholstered in blue leather and carpet, the headliner replaced, and the steel dashboard refinished with a wood-grain pattern and eleven coats of clear lacquer. Extras include air conditioning, a stainless steel exhaust, limited-slip differential, halogen headlights, three-point seat belts, Blaupunkt radio with automatic antenna, and electric windows.
