Launched in 1980, the Ferrari Mondial took over from the 308GT4. It had the same V8 engine in the middle, but on a longer wheelbase. Instead of Bertone’s striking style, the Pininfarina-designed Mondial was like an elegant Italian symphony of cortesia: better equipped, more comfortable, with real 2+2 seats (which Ferrari admits are especially suitable for children and small adults) and still good for 140 mph.

The 6-or also called ‘QV’ – delivered from 1982 onwards – has four valves per cylinder instead of two. The power output of the 2.9-litre V8 rose from 214 to 240 hp due to this upgrade. The finishing touch people secretly longed for.

The Mondial 8 is still considered one of Ferrari’s most reliable, cheap to maintain and practical models. And that’s just good news. Is the Mondial a real Ferrari?
