The Porsche 911 Turbo - aka 930 - was introduced in 1975. It was the maker's top-of-the-range 911 model for its entire production duration (1975 - 1989) and at the time of its introduction, was the fastest German production car. Originally equipped with the turbocharged 3,0 litre flat-six, it developed 260 bhp. In 1978, Porsche made its first and most significant changes to the 930, enlarging the engine bore to a total displacement of 3,299 cc and adding an air-to-air intercooler. By cooling the pressurised air charge, the intercooler helped increase power output to 300 bhp.
The example we are offering for sale was delivered new in Japan in 1978. The car returned to Europe in 2014, and was then thoroughly overhauled by its Dutch owner at the time. The original engine was replaced with a genuine 3.3-litre turbo engine from a later 930 model dating from 1982, which was fitted with electronic fuel injection instead of the original K-Jetronic system. At the same time, the car was repainted in the magnificent ‘Nachtblau’ colour, which is a touch darker than the original ‘Dunkelblau’. In 2017, the Porsche came into the possession of its current Belgian owner, who treated the car with great care and ensured it was perfectly maintained. The gearbox was overhauled in 2017, and at the same time a new clutch, including the pressure plate, was fitted.
The Porsche still looks fantastic and is as spectacular to drive as ever. A 930 Turbo with such low mileage is a rarity, and you would never guess from driving it that it is now almost 50 years old. It remains a real thrill to drive, and its performance puts many a modern car to shame. This 911 has just passed technical control without a single remark, and is 100% ready for a new careful owner.
