The AC Cobra remains one of the most recognisable sportscars ever created, combining classic British roadster styling with the thunderous performance and soundtrack of an American V8. This striking DAX Cobra 427 replica was professionally constructed in 2005 by respected Cobra specialists DB Replicas. Importantly, this is not an amateur-built example, but a carefully engineered and well-finished motor car produced by one of the UK's established Cobra specialists. At its heart is a formidable 6.3 litre Chevrolet stroker V8, understood to produce approximately 450bhp and 450lb ft of torque. Power is delivered through a five-speed manual transmission, providing exhilarating acceleration together with improved flexibility when cruising. With its muscular powerplant, relatively light construction and evocative V8 soundtrack, the resulting performance is suitably dramatic.
The DAX is finished in Ford Imperial Blue with contrasting Old English White racing stripes, a classic combination that particularly suits its purposeful lines. The paintwork presents attractively overall, although areas of micro-blistering can be found upon close inspection and thus may benefit from a refresh. Further exterior details include polished side-exit exhausts, chrome roll hoops, a quick-release-style fuel filler and period-inspired alloy wheels.
Its highly polished and detailed engine bay is a particular highlight, providing an impressive setting for the Chevrolet V8 and demonstrating the attention invested in the car's original construction. Inside, the cockpit is trimmed in cream leather with contrasting blue piping and complemented by blue Wilton carpeting. The result is a more luxurious interpretation of the traditional Cobra interior while retaining its purposeful sporting character.
The accompanying history file contains detailed invoices from Valley Gas Speed Shop, documenting maintenance and work completed through to 2019. The car was subsequently placed into storage until 2024 and has since undergone a comprehensive recommissioning by Aston Martin specialists, The Aston Barn.
