Hilton & Moss are excited to present a riveting Caterham Seven 420R SV at our Hertfordshire showrooms.
The Caterham Seven has always represented the purest interpretation of the sports car. Lightweight, responsive and entirely focused on the experience of driving, few modern cars offer such a direct connection between driver and machine, and this Seven is a particularly interesting example.
The story of the Seven stretches back to 1957, originating from none other than Lotus founder, Colin Chapman. Conceived around Chapman’s famous philosophy of “simplify, then add lightness”, the Seven was designed to deliver maximum driving enjoyment through minimal weight rather than outright complexity. When Lotus ceased production of the Seven in 1973, Caterham acquired the rights to the design and has continued to develop the Seven ever since. More than six decades later, the fundamental principles remain remarkably unchanged. A lightweight chassis, responsive engine, rear-wheel drive and an intimate connection between driver and road.
The car presented here, began life as a 360R in April 2019, delivered by Caterham Gatwick as one of their demonstrator cars. Specified with the larger SV chassis and lowered floor allowing for extra room in the cockpit, the car was painted in the custom choice of Porsche Java Green with black twin stripes. A black and carbon leather complemented the exterior styling perfectly. The car also features the Apollo alloys with Avon ZZ-S tyres.
Being an 'R' spec, the car came with the uprated Bilstein suspension, upgraded 4-pot front brakes, a Limited-Slip diff and lightweight flywheel. Elsewhere other inclusions are a Momo quick release steering wheel, carbon dash and 4-point harnesses. The car has also been specified with carbon fibre front cycle wings and rear arch guards creating a further contrast against the excellent Java Green paintwork.
Having covered just 6,300 miles over the last 7 years with three owners, the car has been well cared for with regular documented servicing. Notably, in December 2024, the most recent owner took the chance to upgrade the car to its current 420R specification at Caterham specialist GP Sevens. This work included the uprated camshafts being installed as well as a dry-sump conversion.
Alongside the cars excellent spec, the car also features a full complement of weather gear. A full hood with frame, half hood, and doors allows ultimate flexibility in all weathers, with the factory installed heater providing more than ample heating if necessary. A heated windscreen proves useful for those early morning blasts and upgraded LED lighting front and rear provides extra visibility when needed. To complete the set, a shower cap is provided for additional cover.
