Since 1921, the Bentley name has been synonymous with prestige, performance and luxury. The 'Continental' designation recalls the Bentley Continental of the post-war period, while the 'R' resonates to the R-Type Bentleys from the 1950s as well as the Turbo R of the 1980s. Bentley's 1980s resurgence relied exclusively on models whose basic architecture was shared with other Rolls-Royce products, however, the Bentley Continental R was unique to the Bentley marque. Despite the need to incorporate non-traditional features such as doors recessed into the roof, the result looked every bit a Bentley, albeit one re-stated for the 1990s. Needless to say, the performance was outstanding; the combination of the Turbo R engine in the new wind-cheating shape cutting the 0-60mph time to under six seconds and boosting top speed to in excess of 150mph.
This Georgian Silver example was first delivered to Guernsey with Magnolia trim, paired with burr walnut veneer and deep carpeting throughout. The cabin presents in good overall condition, with only minor wear evident to certain leather surfaces. The accompanying history file includes a V5 registration document and substantial number of invoices documenting maintenance and servicing. Recent expenditure totals £4,346.22 under the current vendor's ownership since early 2025, with work carried out by Harwoods of Sussex. Earlier maintenance is also recorded, including invoices from Phantom Motor Cars Ltd, which carried out work amounting to £6,400 in 2023. Additional servicing and maintenance have been undertaken by The Garage from 2019 onwards, covering a series of smaller items. Hanwells of London is recorded as having completed work valued at £4,240 in October 2018. Overall, the documentation reflects consistent and ongoing maintenance over a number of years. However, the car does require some recommissioning work; the rear screen has a crack in it, various small paint blemishes, three tyres need replacing, both rear shock absorbers also need replacing, the engine has a misfire and is leaking from the rocker cover gasket, which in turn is dropping oil onto the exhaust manifold. Once sorted however, this Continental R presents the opportunity to enjoy a true British bruising grand tourer, and with a reasonable asking price as well. Consigned by Will Penrose
