Maserati Classic Motorcycle for Sale

The Italian sports car manufacturer Maserati was founded on December 1, 1914 in Bologna as "Società Anonima Officine Alfieri Maserati". Lovers of sports cars and racing cars are familiar with the company name. The fact that the company also designed small motorcycles between 1953 and 1961 is only known to very few people.

Instead of making use of the wide range of available engines, Maserati produced its own range of four-stroke and two-stroke engines. The slot-controlled two-stroke engines were equipped with 49 and 123 cm³, the four-stroke engines with 158 and 246 cm³.

In 1953, the Maserati family took over a small renowned motorcycle workshop in Bologna to expand the production of their own motorcycle line. A 7.5 hp 160 touring bike was produced and given the name 160/T4, along with the typical trident logo. In addition, they developed the L/125/T2, a compact 125cc motorcycle modelled on the German DKW.

In the late 1950s Maserati had to stop producing motorcycles for financial reasons, not only because the competition was getting tougher, but also because more and more people in Europe were able to afford a car.
