The Kawasaki Z1 was simply amazing when it was first introduced in 1972 and is still amazing today. It has become one of the most iconic of classic Japanese motorcycles with timeless styling which went on to influence many motorcycles thereafter. The heart of the Z1 was the 903cc 4-cylinder double overhead camshaft engine, with a "square" bore and stroke at 66mm x 66mm. The engine produced 82 bhp for 250 kg, which was phenomenal in 1972. The "four into four" exhaust system was an artistic masterpiece and was one of the Z1’s most striking features.
The example we are offering for sale is a 1975 Z1B, which has basically the same design as the original Z1 from 1972. It came in a different colour scheme, and was optionally available with twin front disc brakes. The engine was now with a bare aluminium finish instead of the earlier mat black finish, and the 5-speed gearbox remained the same as on the Z1.
This fantastic motorcycle was delivered new in Germany, and came to Belgium some years ago. The last owner undertook a complete nut-and-bolt restoration, and the Kawasaki has done 227 km since. It is in absolute concours condition, and probably better than new. The "Candy Super Blue" colour scheme is gorgeous and very seventies, and fits this impressive motorcycle really well. Our Z1B is equipped with the optional twin front discs, which is an interesting extra for such a powerful bike.
The seventies Kawasaki Z1 is today a real collectors item, and finding one in this immaculate condition is rare. It has a Belgian registration at the moment, and comes with invoices going back as far as the nineties. It drives as good as it looks, and with the summer knocking on the door it is probably the right moment to plan a visit to inspect this lovely piece of engineering.
