A 1955 Volkswagen Beetle needs no introduction. Almost everyone recognizes its shape, its sound, and its rounded fenders. Even people with no particular interest in classic cars can identify one within seconds.

This example features the characteristic oval rear window, a detail used for only a limited number of years and one that immediately distinguishes the early models. Combined with the small taillights, the simple interior, and the classic body shape, it gives the Beetle exactly the right appearance.

This Volkswagen was restored according to its original specifications. The correct materials were used, and every effort was made to recreate not only the appearance of the car, but also its original character. The restoration was also extensively documented with photographs, making it possible to follow precisely how the Beetle was rebuilt from the ground up.

Returned to its original purity. That may sound almost overly serious for a car originally designed to provide simple, affordable, and reliable transportation. Yet the phrase suits it perfectly. The charm of an early Beetle does not lie in luxury or speed, but precisely in its simplicity. An air-cooled engine at the rear, a straightforward dashboard, and mechanicals that simply do what they are expected to do. The exterior is finished in beautiful black paint, with excellent panel fit throughout. Inside, you will find handsome upholstery with matching carpets.

This example retains matching numbers. The original Swedish “Servicebok” is also still present. Its first owner was KJ Eriksson of Stockholm. That is where this Beetle’s life began: in Sweden, far from the German factory where it had been built. The year 1955 also holds special significance in Volkswagen history, as it was the year the one-millionth Beetle rolled off the production line. What began as Germany’s “people’s car” became a worldwide success after the war and ultimately one of the most recognizable automobiles of the twentieth century. In 1954, Volkswagen used the invitation: “Meet the Beetle.” We would say: meet this Beetle.

A correctly restored 1955 Oval-Window Beetle with matching numbers, the proper documentation, and all the character of an era when driving was an entirely different experience. Not the fastest car in the collection. Quite possibly one of the most enjoyable.
