For Sale: 1971 Saab 96 V4 – A Time-Capsule Survivor with Attitude
Looking for a vintage Swedish cruiser that stands out from the crowd? This 1971 Saab V4 combines classic rally heritage with a distinct 1980s retro vibe. It is a highly authentic, mechanically refreshed survivor that is ready to hit the road immediately.
The Story & Provenance
This Saab has history. It was repainted a vibrant yellow back in the 1980s and fitted with a rear wing and aftermarket rearview mirrors, giving it a unique period-correct look.
In 1989, the robust V4 engine was completely renovated. Shortly after, a broken transmission forced the car into dry storage, where it sat preserved like a time capsule for 35 years. In 2024, it was finally brought back into the light, and a mild mechanical resurrection began.
Recent Work Done (2024–2026)
Recent updates include:
- Drivetrain: Refurbished transmission with fresh oil, paired with that healthy, low-mileage 1989 renovated engine.
- Engine Service: Brand new timing set, fresh oil, and new filter, flushed radiator and new coolant. The engine runs beautifully and stays cool.
- Brakes: New brake hoses, pads and shoes all around for reliability.
- Wheels & Tyres: Upgraded to 4-bolt hubs (4x114,3mm) wearing iconic, period-correctRonal alloy wheels and fresh Dunlop 165/65/R15 tyres.
- Exterior: Partially new front and rear bumpers. The 80s yellow paint has been thoroughly cleaned, revived, and polished to a bright shine, but leaving the patina.
- **Legal:**Passed its Swedish MOT (Besiktning) on June 11, 2026. It is officially road-legal and ready to drive home!
