Description

1954 Rolls Royce Silver Dawn Auto by James Young
Chassis Number: STH95
Registration Number: JMB31
One of just 9 examples produced by James Young in Aluminium to this design & this one benefits from being one of the late ones on what would have been a big boot chassis with the larger engine & automatic gear box as an optional extra.
The car comes to us in impeccable order having been purchased by a French wine Chateau in 2001 and fully restored around 2003 including a bare metal respray in metallic Oxford Blue to a very high standard. At the same time the interior was re-trimmed in Beige leather which we find in beautiful condition today. The woodwork was likewise removed & refinished & is of a quality & quantity far in excess of a standard steel siver dawn extending to the rear picnic tables.
Major work was also done more recently in 2017 to the engine & gear box to put the car in superb running condition. It now comes to us as part of an estate sale from the deceased owner who clearly spent money upon it & was fastidious in its care.
Early History is as follows: In March 1955 the car was supplied to a titled owner in Scotland (J W Brook) in Glasgow. JW Brook died in June 1955, the car was then sold to Fred Fishwick & Co Ltd (autodrome engineers) Manchester in December 1955. In February 1956 the car passed to John Gorna (solicitor) in Manchester who owned it until December 1961 when it was bought by CJM Ommanney (Barrister) of London.
This is a great example of a coach built Silver Dawn & is to our mind far far more desirable then the stadard steel ones being far more rare & stylish.
There are an assortment of other large bills that we have been asked not to publicly display by a previous European owner but these are available for inspection by request.
