1958 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 1
Chassis Number: SGE4
Registration Number: GMRR158H Germany
A Rolls Royce Silver Cloud 1 in really really fine condition. This car comes to us with a mass of bills from the last two fastidious German owners that are eyewatering in their sum to say the least & spill over into two massive files including restoration photographs.
The car is finished in traditional Masons black paintwork which was done as a bare metal respray some years ago & is still in lovely condition to this day having been always garaged post restoration. During the respray process all corrosion was cut out & new metal let in where required. This was not just any respray. All the glass was taken out & the body extensively prepped. After paint was appplied it was checked for thickness with a micrometer.
To the interior is renewed cream leather with just a tiny bit of patina of use & frankly all the better for it. The headlining has also been replaced. Massive mechanical restoration work has been done to the car for which bills are on file. As a result the car runs beautifully with 90 MPH cruising easily attainable as we found out on the way back from Germany. The gear changes are seamless & the kickdown on the 4 speed auto gear box works well. The under bonnet area is very very tidy & clearly the car has been very well looked after. Oil pressure is excellent & the car runs cool. The car was supplied new with power steering fitted making it very easy to manoeuver.
We have just serviced the car & given it a fresh oil change so it is absolutely ready to go. A new exhaust was fitted so the car proceeds in silence just as one of these ought but not often does. Picnic tables were specified when new & are in situ in the seat backs. Interestingly a modern refrigerator was installed behind the fold out arm rest in the rear seats which is handy for keeping the Pol Roger Cuvee Winston Churchill cool on sunny days. We are in the process of UK registering it but will also keep the German plates in case it goes back to Europe so it is EEC Taxes paid.
It is always a pleasure to get a cloud in that needs no excuses & is in such lovely running condition. The straight six engine is far far smoother then the later V8 versions & is simply a pleasure to be wafted down the road in.
Not the cheapest cloud on the market but the quality remains long after the price is forgotton as Sir Henry Royce was wont to say. It is worth every penny of the asking price!!!
