The Rolls-Royce marque has traditionally been renowned for its exceptionally large and luxurious limousines. The first Rolls-Royce model to firmly establish this enduring reputation was the Silver Ghost. In 1925, the Silver Ghost was succeeded by the Phantom I, and ever since, the name “Phantom” has been synonymous with the very pinnacle of luxury and prestige in the automotive world. For over 100 years.
The Phantom II succeeded the Phantom I in 1929. It was powered by a 7,668 cc inline-six engine, which provided ample power to propel the imposing coachbuilt bodies effortlessly through traffic.

At the beginning of the last century, Gurney Nutting was one of Britain’s most renowned coachbuilders. The company built bodies for a wide range of automotive marques and catered to an extensive clientele of prominent customers. Many Rolls-Royces were fitted with limousine coachwork. Its defining characteristic was a passenger compartment that extended well towards the rear, with the rear seat generally positioned above the rear axle.
Another well-known body style was the Sedanca de Ville. This featured a removable roof panel above the driver, while the passenger compartment behind the front seats was fully enclosed. When fitted to a large limousine-sized car, this configuration was known as a Limousine de Ville.
Most limousines were driven by a chauffeur employed specifically for the purpose, while the owner travelled in the spacious and comfortable rear compartment. The chauffeur had to make do with a leather-upholstered bench seat, whereas the owner could settle into the most exclusive fabrics available in the luxurious rear cabin.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom II Gurney Nutting Limousine de Ville offered by Classic Park bears chassis number 12UK and was originally delivered new in Great Britain. Its first owner was Peter F. Jackson, who took delivery of the car in May 1935. In November 1989, the car was registered in the Netherlands, and in 1992 it passed into the ownership of the gentleman who would keep it for an impressive 34 years.
The car is being offered for sale as part of the estate of a highly respected Rolls-Royce and Bentley expert. Throughout this period, it has been treated with great care and professionally maintained.

The paintwork has developed a beautiful patina and is believed to be largely original. The interior also appears to be remarkably original. The leather shows signs of use, but considering the car’s age, it remains in exceptional condition, as does the fabric upholstery in the rear compartment. The six-cylinder engine runs smoothly and quietly. This Rolls-Royce exudes 90 years of history, having stood the test of time in remarkably good condition.
